The Naked Roommate

For most of my life (as I seemingly recall) I have been a beer/wine virgin (not saying alcohol because I have had a brandy-filled chocolate once), and have managed to abstain from any alcoholic beverages so far in rez life.

I have no desire for alcohol but my friends are telling me to drink once and find out my degree of drunkeness because I'll drink at least once in my life. One of them even jokingly offered me "ginger ale" that was too dark for its colour.

So my question is, should I drink once to see what my degree of inebriation is, or just abstain for the rest of my life as a personal choice?

Do what you want, it seems you are having peer pressure issues..  Do what YOU want.  If you want to drink then do it, if not, screw your friends... metaphorically of course...  But I can tell you from someone who is 21, I have never been drunk, although I have been drinking since I was 16 or so, but it would be like a glass of wine every now and then, not like college kids do now... that is just gross.. Beer in general is just gross.. trust me.. Frankly if you want to see your tolerance, do it at home around people that wont want you to keep drinking until you get sick.  Whatever you choose, just be safe about it, that is all most colleges ask for :)

I would recommend that you do at least try and drink wine or something like that so you know what to expect if you are out on a date or a business meeting.  Knowing how to choose a good wine (or whiskey etc.) can be a good talent, even if you choose not to drink, it will definitely impress your date!

I agree with Grant.  I am 22 years old, have only ever had sips of alcohol (and only after turning 21) and I absolutely hate the taste.  I do not understand the appeal of alcohol.  If you see an appeal in it, go ahead (but only if you're legal!).  If not, don't let anyone else talk you into doing something you don't agree with.  If, as you say, you have no desire for alcohol, then that's your answer right there.  If they're really your friends, they will understand.
